We all have our own routines and rituals that help us stay focused, motivated, and productive throughout the day and into the night. Here are some of the methods we use to keep ourselves motivated throughout our day-to-day lives so that we can focus on staying productive and reaching our goals!

I think it’s pretty easy to blame others for your failures or to blame your failures on external factors. Through sheer willpower alone, many people try and improve their lives, but they always burn out. To get through life successfully, you need motivation. Once that part is sorted out, I believe that your lifestyle should reflect who you are at heart — whether that means working in an office 9–5 or following other dreams of yours. Motivation comes from within, while a lifestyle comes from without. Accept both parts of yourself, then work towards a healthy balance between them. It’s as simple as that!

define what success means to you

Before you can motivate yourself, it’s important to know what success means. This doesn’t mean more money or an expensive car, but rather what will actually fulfill your motivation. Some people want to live a healthy lifestyle while others want to be financially independent or travel often. You can set your definition of success and ensure that your goals line up with those values. For example, if you want to run a marathon in six months, then make sure that training is part of your daily routine. If you decide later on down the road that running isn’t for you anymore, then at least it won’t feel like such a waste of time. Success should never be based on one goal; instead, try setting multiple smaller goals throughout your lifetime. You’ll have more reasons to achieve each one as well as feel a sense of accomplishment when you complete them all.

start small, reward yourself for every small milestone

Goal setting is crucial when it comes to staying on track and being productive. It can be easy to lose motivation or feel like you’re not making any progress towards your larger goals, but that doesn’t mean that your entire project is doomed for failure. Small successes and rewards for every milestone met will help you stay focused and engaged with your work, allowing you to make steady progress as opposed to feeling overwhelmed by how much work still lies ahead of you. Break up large projects into smaller chunks, set milestones, and then give yourself a small reward (like a movie night) once you reach each one. Over time, those small wins will add up!

This is a great exercise to help put your energy into visualizing your goals. Gather up some magazines and cut out pictures of what you would like to achieve or attract in life, and create an imageboard that illustrates these goals. Then, post it somewhere in plain sight where you will see it every day. This is a great way to constantly be reminded of your goal! Another fun idea is to make a vision board collage using magazine photos, sticky notes, and markers. You can make your own vision board template by printing off blank magazine pages and taping them together at regular intervals (2 inches apart). On each page, write down your goals with small sticky notes before attaching them to each page with tape. Alternatively, use washi tape instead of regular tape so that you can easily remove your goals when they are achieved. When looking at your vision board, remember to keep it positive; avoid writing things such as I want to lose 10 pounds on your board if you are trying to gain weight. Instead, write something such as I want to feel healthy and strong on a sticky note instead. In addition to creating a vision board, there are other ways to visualize your goals. One of my favorite ways is through meditation. Meditating for just five minutes twice per day can greatly improve your focus and concentration levels which can have a significant impact on how well you achieve your goals. There are many different types of meditation techniques but one simple technique involves focusing on one thing for five minutes without allowing any other thoughts or distractions to enter your mind during that time period.

focus on the positive things in life

To stay motivated, you need to celebrate your successes and look forward to your goals. Often, when you focus on a future reward or goal — or have an experience that makes you feel good about yourself — you’ll find it easier to be optimistic about your future efforts. For example, if we finish a big project at work (like writing a book), it feels good to recognize our hard work and appreciate how far we’ve come as a person. This feeling of accomplishment can help us see that we can achieve even bigger things in life, like running a marathon or starting a business. By celebrating your accomplishments and setting new goals, you’ll create positive feedback loops that will help motivate you for months or years to come.
Take some time today to review your past successes and think about things that have made you feel proud of who you are. Remember how good it felt when we passed our driving test or got promoted at work. Think about how great it felt when we wrote that poem in high school or finished our first novel. To continue feeling proud of ourselves, we need to remind ourselves of these positive experiences so that they can motivate us in future challenges.

If you have a friend or family member that’s constantly putting you down or discouraging your goals, it might be time to distance yourself from them for a while. This can help increase your motivation by clearing out any negative energy and thoughts that may be holding you back from achieving success. Also, try not to focus on what others are doing — it’s easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, but remember that everyone has different circumstances and resources at their disposal. Comparing yourself to others will only leave you feeling discouraged. Instead, try focusing on your own progress — celebrate every little win along the way! It’s important to remember that we all have bad days; there will be times when you feel unmotivated, uninspired, and exhausted. The key is learning how to work through these feelings so they don’t become obstacles standing in your way. Don’t let anyone tell you what you should or can’t do — set realistic goals for yourself and never stop working towards them.

Exercise is essential for your mental and physical health. When it comes to motivation, exercise is a good booster; no matter how unmotivated you feel, exercising is bound to make you feel better. Plus, it’s a great way to set aside time just for yourself and give your mind some much-needed rest. It also helps you get through those rough patches in life when you need an extra boost — like when you’re going through a breakup or having trouble at work. And if that doesn’t help, then maybe working out will at least get your endorphins going! The most important thing is to stick with it. You don’t have to start off with crazy workouts; simply taking a walk every day can be enough of a motivator. Over time, you can build up your endurance and increase intensity as needed. If running feels too strenuous right now, try jogging instead — or even brisk walking if jogging isn’t possible yet. As long as you move more often than not, it counts as exercise! This simple trick alone has helped many people get started on their journey toward a healthier lifestyle. Just remember: It doesn’t have to be perfect from day one.
